Statue of Greek actor in the Luxembourg Gardens, with the
Pantheon in the background.  This bronze was shown at
the Universal Exposition in Paris in 1878.  The sculptor was
Charles Arthur Bourgeois (1838-1886).

I just love these frilly French signs in the Champ de Mars.

This one says to keep the dogs on a leash, according to
Article 8 of the Code of Regulations.

Dinner last night at La Petite Chaise with Linda and John was delicious and fun.  We’re now planning an indoor picnic at their apartment in the 9th arrondissement for next Wednesday evening, when several other Sanibelians can join us.

In the meantime, Patrimony Days are coming up this weekend.  I have selected a number of places for us to visit and tour on Saturday and Sunday.

Tom has been working away furiously on his chapter, which I’m hoping we’ll be able to take to the FedEx office tomorrow.  We’ll see.

I just spent a little while working on a proposal for how we can work toward health insurance coverage for all Americans.  Sitting here in France, doing this little exercise, feels strange.  To the French, it is just unbelievable and inexcusable that we don’t provided coverage for all of our citizens.  It is absurd.  The French are absolutely right.

Here’s the sketchy outline that I have so far.  Thanks to Bill Richardson for his help.  Please send me any suggested additions.

Guiding Principle:  In America, no one should be denied health care because of wealth or income.

Key features of a plan for health insurance coverage for all:

Americans who are satisfied with their current health insurance should be able to keep it.

For others, affordable coverage can be expanded by making the following available:

1.  The same plan that members of Congress have;

2.  Medicare for those 55-64;

3.  Medicaid for lower income families;

4.  Existing family coverage for young adults up to age 25; and

5.  Expanded coverage for veterans.

All health insurance should preserve the right for patients to choose their physician.

Insurance companies should be required to end coverage denials due to pre-existing conditions.

Employers should be required to contribute make health insurance available to employees

The Federal government should make a sliding-scale tax credit available for those who need help affording coverage

Families should get relief from high interest rates for medical debt placed on credit cards.
